The internet is buzzing with Mother’s Day sales already. It starts early, impatient for Easter to pass. Promotion codes for 20% off sales and free gifts slide through our news feeds. Like Valentine’s Day for the singles, Mother’s Day can feel like artillery fire raining down on the heart of the childless.
We don’t hate Mother’s Day. We are able to acknowledge that mothers are important; we celebrate and honour our own mothers in small, meaningful ways. Our longing, however, causes pain to surge and lift within us. Questions simmer quietly, hope flickers and sputters; we long to be mothers. That’s all, really.
This Mother’s Day, I have a gift for the woman walking this road of infertility. I understand, you see, how this May Sunday can bleed and ache. I have been there. In some ways, I remain there.
If someone you love is walking this road, will you share this resource with them? “I saw this,” you could say, “and I thought of you.”
